Acquisition Time!

PayPerPost is apparently acquiring a company that they will be announcing next week. As they have not announced it yet I obviously cannot comment on it really. There is a lot of room for PayPerPost to acquire web metric outfits or advertising networks/agencies that would be a great compliment to their business to drive traffic to their sponsors. I am betting that their new acquisition is along those lines. It is somewhat unusual for a new startup to be acquiring other companies, but I guess this speaks to the strength of PayPerPost as a company.

Of course we are all reminded of PayPerPost’s last attempted acquisition of Performancing, a large blogger network, metrics platform and provider of blogging classifieds. PayPerPost announced the deal, having signed a letter of intent, then ditched the deal. They backed out at the last minute, saying that, “We…dug into the Metrics platform and regretfully found that it wasn’t what we were looking for right now.” This came only a week after they had originally announced the deal. PayPerPost had obviously not done their homework and looked like they did not know what they were doing. As frequent critic Mike Arrington wrote “In merger-land, this is what’s known as “being left at the altar” because everyone down the road who you talk to will want to know why the previous deal exploded.” Hopefully this time the fine folks working at PayPerPost are acting like adults.

*Disclosure-I was paid for this post*
